Market Research - Low End


Valleygirl is a low end, women's store which stocks the brand Chicabooti. They stock a range of clothing including party wear, casual basics, office wear and street wear all fitting in with current trends. I can imagine girls from the age of 11 to 40 shopping there as not only is there fun casual clothing that would appeal to younger people, there is clothing such as business pants, shirts and jackets as well as other more fun styles that would appeal to an older market.

What the store looks like:






  • Clothing manufactured in China
  • Size range : 8-14
  • Price range : $4.99-79.99
  • Low quality fabric, fastenings, embellishments and printing
  • Little tailoring in garment shapes
  • Inconsistency in sizes in different garment styles throughout store
  • Huge amounts of stock
  • All stock on racks on the store floor
  • Clothing displayed on the walls, floor racks and jumper tables
  • Simple decor - decoration created by posters
  • Busy - lots of customers shopping
  • 1-2 staff working
  • Less customer service
  • Tidy - clothing merchandised so that they can be seen best
  • Set out in a way customers require less help from staff (all clothing on racks at a height that can be easily reached, easy access to changing rooms, obvious place to leave unwanted clothes)
  • Happy pop music being played
  • Lots of plain, versatile garments / necessity garments
  • Reduced items in a clearly marked wall section and arranged by price on floor racks
  • Chain store with countless Valleygirl and Temt branches throughout NZ
  • Weak plastic coat hangers and generic swing tags
